When pondering her aunt’s darling, the storyteller thinks about being alluring in American culture. She thinks about how she will draw in Chinese young men without pulling in every other person. She is even uncertain of whom she wishes to draw in. She finds the torment she feels in attempting to discover somebody to cherish in her new culture reflected in her aunt’s life. The town rebuffs the auntie for endeavoring to have a private life, and the storyteller feels rebuffed for having a private life also. The aunt’s job as an untouchab le in her locale reflects the narrator’s perspective on herself as an outsider in American culture. The storyteller comprehends that her auntie was an outsider in light of the fact that the auntie was living with her folks when she ought to have been living with her husband’s guardians. From this acknowledgment, the storyteller reasons that the family would have constrained the auntie to eat alone and separate from the family. This detachment is the thing that the storyteller feels in America. She the two partakes in the way of life and is isolated from it.
